“I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.” ~William Penn

“Vegetarianism isn’t about fanatical personal purity, it’s about having some perspective. Move at your own pace; no one’s keeping score. Vegetarianism isn’t about scarcity, it’s about abundance. It’s not about restriction, it’s about liberation. Not about what we’re against but what we’re for; not for some far-off time but for right now. For me going vegetarian is less about becoming something and more about being true to ourselves.” ~Michael Gregor MD [...]

“The poverty of our century is unlike that of any other. It is not, as poverty was before, the result of natural scarcity, but of a set of priorities imposed upon the rest of the world by the rich. Consequently, the modern poor are not pitied…but written off as trash. The twentieth-century consumer economy has produced the first culture for which a beggar is a reminder of nothing.” ~John Berger [...]

Christmas is nearly upon us, one of the few occasions in the year that sees many of us around the world coming together to celebrate. And although there are many people who do not celebrate Christmas; for some of us it seems that the whole world is flooded with Christmas wishes and goodwill.
And this is what I love about Christmas, this seemingly universal coming together; being with loved ones to share and eat and be merry. Yet it is so easy for all this merriment and cheer to be drowned under the weight of spending and presents and stress and rushing to get it all done. [...]

“Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.” ~ C. S. Lewis

What have I been waiting for all these 30 plus years that it has taken this long to really embrace life? Why have I been hiding behind depression and exhaustion and blame and bad habits and laziness? Is it we sometimes expect too much from life that we cannot truly appreciate the magnificence; even when it is all around us?
Every day is a chance to live, to breathe and fell alive. All it takes is a little positive energy a little positive motivation and a true desire to live! [...]

“I long to accomplish great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”
~ Helen Keller

I understand that emissions’ trading scheme is being considered as a way to reduce carbon in the atmosphere and this is a good thing. I simply wish we would hear more about other ways of reducing our environmental impact as well.
Like governments and big companies investing in clean energy, renewable resources, recycled materials and a reduction in consumption and dirty manufacturing process. Or conservation of natural habitats, sustainable farming and building methods, there are so many things that we all can do to reduce the effects of pollution and waste on our planet. There is more to our “environmental crisis” than just carbon.

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves… All is a miracle.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh [...]
