“The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of because words diminish your feelings – words shrink things that seem timeless when they are in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out.”

~ Stephen King { Different Seasons }

We carry around so many thoughts and feelings, dreams and ideas. We let them flow, often unchecked, around inside our heads creating hopes and passions but also fears and doubts.

Sometimes it is important to keep dreams close at heart, to covert them, to protect them within ourselves. To let them grow in the timeless recess of our hearts.

Yet fears can also seem timeless when they exist only within us; they perpetuate feelings of despair and doubt. And it is the dark thoughts that should be set free, opened up to others so they can be formed into words and given life to change and be shaped by the world around us.

Our minds are where we dream and where we contemplate. Keep some things precious and safe inside but do not harbour those thoughts that bring fear and doubt; speak them aloud and diminish their influence by making them living size. Look upon them with perspective and set them free into the world.

So that the monotonous fall of the waves on the beach, which for the most part beat a measured and soothing tattoo to her thoughts and seemed consolingly to repeat over and over again as she sat with the children the words of some cradle song, murmured by nature, ‘I am guarding you – I am your support,’ but at other times suddenly and unexpectedly, especially when her mind raised itself slightly from the task actually in hand, had no such kindly meaning, but like a ghostly roll of drums remorselessly beat the measure of life, made one think of the destruction of the island and its engulfment in the sea, and warned her whose day had slipped past in one quick doing after another that is was all ephemeral as a rainbow..

~ Virginia Woolf { To the Lighthouse }

time passes so quietly most times, so quickly,
we do not often raise our heads to look beyond what tasks are at hand
these small things, these tasks and deeds are what make up our life
yet it is good to raise our heads and see and hear the presence of our world
because
life is ephemeral
and that is the very thing that makes it so worth living

“Man’s feelings are always purest and most glowing in the hour of meeting and of farewell.” ~Jean Paul Richter

As we farewell the old year and bring in the new there is always a sense of reflection, of resolution, of opportunity missed but also the promise of new opportunities to be found. The sense of crossing over, passing by the year gone and entering into a new faze, a new era, where hope and change and chance prevail.

Each new day offers the same opportunity to embrace a sense of resolution and reflection. With pure and glowing feelings we can embrace each new day as a new opportunity to be present and hold onto resolution and reflection throughout the year; not just on the threshold of the new.

Each day is filled with hope, with chance and change and opportunity.. with a little reflection upon each days close the power and presence of everyday becomes real and tangible.

“A little reflection will show us that every belief, even the simplest and most fundamental, goes beyond experience when regarded as a guide to our actions.”

Life is a constant journey and we may not always know where it is we are going

or indeed where it is we truly want to go…

But, be present and listen to the heart; follow true dreams and be ready for anything.

Sometimes even when we feel we are going the wrong way

we end up in places we never dreamed or believed possible!!

Because, when we hold onto our true self;

we will never truly lose our way.

“I long to accomplish great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”

My husband and I climbed a mountain on the weekend. What a fantastic day! The effort to reach the top was rewarded ten fold by the amazing views and a deep sense of accomplishment. I am in awe of the Earth and her amazing strength and beauty. The true peace and quiet you can find simply by being near to nature and feeling her patience and perseverance is humbling.

“There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention to the story.”

This life offers us so many opportunities to really live, to be alive in the moment, to feast on the abundance of life and create our own path. As we reach the top of one mountain life gives us another… we can climb forever continually shaping and dreaming and achieving new heights of love, of happiness and of understanding.

Through little rituals and thoughts we spin the world
And create a life that speaks to each of us
Our daily rituals and thoughts
With small actions and simple truths
The little things we do each day
The thoughts or prayers, deeds and habits
Our lives and the lives of others
Reaching out to keep the world in motion
And as the world spins so we spin
