The challenge to change ourselves…

by A. Simplicity on January 8, 2010

positive change

There are many times in our lives when we feel helpless; when we feel as though we are powerless to challenge the way things are. Situations big and small can be hard to confront and overcome, but we are, in the face of this, always able to change ourselves. [...]

Vegetarianism and Choice

by A. Simplicity on December 18, 2009

life journey

“Vegetarianism isn’t about fanatical personal purity, it’s about having some perspective. Move at your own pace; no one’s keeping score. Vegetarianism isn’t about scarcity, it’s about abundance. It’s not about restriction, it’s about liberation. Not about what we’re against but what we’re for; not for some far-off time but for right now. For me going vegetarian is less about becoming something and more about being true to ourselves.” ~Michael Gregor MD [...]

life journey

“The poverty of our century is unlike that of any other. It is not, as poverty was before, the result of natural scarcity, but of a set of priorities imposed upon the rest of the world by the rich. Consequently, the modern poor are not pitied…but written off as trash. The twentieth-century consumer economy has produced the first culture for which a beggar is a reminder of nothing.” ~John Berger [...]

Say hi to life!! Go on!!

find happiness

What have I been waiting for all these 30 plus years that it has taken this long to really embrace life? Why have I been hiding behind depression and exhaustion and blame and bad habits and laziness? Is it we sometimes expect too much from life that we cannot truly appreciate the magnificence; even when it is all around us?

Every day is a chance to live, to breathe and fell alive. All it takes is a little positive energy a little positive motivation and a true desire to live! [...]

tiny pushes…

by A. Simplicity on December 7, 2009

a simple life

“I long to accomplish great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”

~ Helen Keller

I understand that emissions’ trading scheme is being considered as a way to reduce carbon in the atmosphere and this is a good thing. I simply wish we would hear more about other ways of reducing our environmental impact as well.

Like governments and big companies investing in clean energy, renewable resources, recycled materials and a reduction in consumption and dirty manufacturing process. Or conservation of natural habitats, sustainable farming and building methods, there are so many things that we all can do to reduce the effects of pollution and waste on our planet. There is more to our “environmental crisis” than just carbon.

change habits

Having struggled with anxiety all my life it has only been within the last 6 or 7 years that I have overcome the control and fear that dominated my life through anxiety attacks and depression. Yet that tense, uptight, insistent part of my mind is still ever present and I have, for all the rest and time and space enjoyed lately, not been able to shake it. The thoughts and fears that whirl around my head, bouncing off the sides, a constant hammer that keeps me from truly finding the rest I seek in my soul. There have been times when I was able to let go of this whirlwind that dwells inside me and it was then that these thoughts would flow through me, acknowledge, but I was able to let then pass out of my mind, freely, like drifting clouds across the sky. Animals Australia launch TV ad campaign!

by A. Simplicity on November 16, 2009

Something new has appeared on our televisions here in New Zealand and also in Australia; a TV advertisement campaigning against the inhumane cruelty of factory farming. I first saw the TV spot online a few days ago and tonight I saw it for the first time on National television. [...]

the minute particulars…

by A. Simplicity on November 14, 2009

positive living

“There are no prescriptive solutions, no grand designs for grand problems. Life’s solutions lie in the minute particulars involving more and more individual people daring to create their own life and art, daring to listen to the voice within their deepest, original nature, and deeper still, the voice within the earth”
~Stephen Nachmanovitch

plastic waste

Have you ever considered our disposable lifestyle, how many of the products we use everyday are designed to be thrown out after as little as just one use? Tissues, toweling paper, razors, coffee cups, drink containers, food containers, nappies, tea bags, plastic shopping bags are all manufactured, packaged, transported and sold to be used once and then discarded, sometimes within a matter of minutes.
