by A. Simplicity on November 16, 2009

Something new has appeared on our televisions here in New Zealand and also in Australia; a TV advertisement campaigning against the inhumane cruelty of factory farming. I first saw the TV spot online a few days ago and tonight I saw it for the first time on National television. [...]

non toxic cleaning

Many of us are eager to keep our homes clean and safe for our families. We use various products to disinfect, deodorize, sparkle, shine and sanitize every room, appliance and piece of furniture. Unfortunately when we rely on conventionally cleaning products we quite often expose ourselves and the environment to potentially hazardous and toxic chemicals.

We need to consider the fact that we often come into close contact with cleaning products, especially laundry detergent and surface cleaners. Although the associated health risks from these chemicals, when we are exposed through typical household use, are likely to be low; the long term health effects and possible associated allergic reaction can be unknown. [...]

voluntary simplicity

When looking to simplify our lives we are often faced with doubt; it is something we can come across everyday; either in our own mind or from the opinion of others. There is the ‘but,’ the ‘but’ that at times rears its head in our attempts to balance our own lives with a desire to live a more socially aware and sustainable lifestyle. [...]

plastic waste

Have you ever considered our disposable lifestyle, how many of the products we use everyday are designed to be thrown out after as little as just one use? Tissues, toweling paper, razors, coffee cups, drink containers, food containers, nappies, tea bags, plastic shopping bags are all manufactured, packaged, transported and sold to be used once and then discarded, sometimes within a matter of minutes. [...]

Contemplation…

Aoraki, New Zealand

“As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.” ~ Henry David Thoreau [...]

Balance and Consequence : Our Modern Consumer Lifestyle

by A. Simplicity on October 22, 2009

balance in your life

We all need balance in our lives, a balance that allows us to consider our wants, needs and desires. To be able to weigh up our lifestyle and make choices that reflects a true desire to do better and an understanding of our impact as members of a consumer society.

I am hoping, over the next couple of weeks, to target specific areas of our everyday life and look at how our choices and habits have an effect on the world around us. [...]

The other day, sometime in dead space…

by A. Simplicity on October 19, 2009

blog action day

The other day sometime in dead space, where televisions don’t play and the noise is deafening; I ponder on and reflected the notion of complete harmony

The night before I had a dream transnational companies were on my back and the trees growing between my toes began to die [...]

blog action day

Much of the reason why the earth is in such a dire state could be based on the way we as a society have over the years detached ourselves from the living world and viewed nature as simply something we could control for our own needs. Unfortunately I feel ‘Climate Change’ is not only a consequence of this view but also a product.

We need positive reinforcement and a will to live sustainably for the benefit and survival of all people and the natural living world. [...]

Stand Up Against Poverty and Inequality

by A. Simplicity on October 11, 2009

Each day, 25 000 children die as a result of extreme poverty and nearly 1 billion of the world’s population exist on $1 a day. We live in a time where some of us are granted with abundant prosperity and opportunity while others still live in extreme poverty and hardship. Each one of us has a voice and our voice can be heard. It’s up to us to make sure leaders follow through on these commitments. Join the global campaign to ‘Stand Up’ and take action against Poverty and Inequality. [...]
